At Twice the Ice we not only value what goes into our product, but the effect our machines have on the environment. Our ice and water is made on-site, avoiding the hazardous waste produced by large factories, bypassing the greenhouse gasses emitted by delivery trucks, and avoiding exposure to the various bacteria that your delivered ice & water products are susceptible to. The penguin has been symbolic in helping us build the Twice the Ice brand. We will continue to do our part to help limit the pollution our planet faces, and help ensure that our friend the penguin is here to stay.

no trucksNo Trucks

Most bottled water and bagged ice is filtered and packaged in a factory, then shipped to convenience stores in refrigerated trucks. This shipping process introduces literal tons of greenhouse gases into the air. When there’s water very near most of us, this shipping process simply doesn’t make sense. With on-site filtration, purification and filling, Twice the Ice water and ice vending machines cut out the shipping process and remove all of the greenhouse gases from transport.

no factoryNo Factory

Filtration, packaging and storage in a factory introduces more energy use and pollution into the environment. Twice the Ice eliminates this process by filtering ice and water on-site near you. The vending machines filter and dispense ice and water as-needed, so there’s no waste.

no handsNo Hands

Traditionally bagged, retail ice gets handled multiple times before it gets to your drink or cooler. It’s handled during manufacturing, shipping, loading, and unloading. All of this handling introduces more germs and more risk for diseases. With ice and water vending, you’re the only one handling your ice and water. With touchless vending using the ICE2U app, your ice and water has never been cleaner or safer.

no bottleNo Bottle

Plastic is one of the biggest environmental threats we face today. Plastic is filling up oceans and landfills, killing wildlife, producing toxins, and using up nonrenewable resources. Twice the Ice makes it easy to refill your own containers with clean, crystal-clear ice or water. By reducing packaging, we’re doing our part to reduce plastic waste.

Disaster Relief

When disasters strike, they often destroy the most essential parts of life, including access to clean water. When hurricanes and floods overwhelm water systems, contaminate drinking water and cause electrical outages, Twice the Ice machines are available to help victims and first responders. Twice the Ice has provided hundreds of thousands of pounds of ice across multiple states and over 10 years. Our ice machines have provided vital access to clean water and ice through Hurricanes Katrina, Rita, Matthew, Irma, Harvey, Michael, Maria, Dorian, and many more.

Hurricane Katrina

When Hurricane Katrina struck the Gulf Coast in August, 2005, thousands were left without access to clean drinking water. With homes and critical infrastructure destroyed, and thousands of victims relocated to the Houston Astrodome for housing, access to clean drinking water became a significant challenge to the relief effort. Ice House America donated two of the largest ice vending units, the Ice House, to the Houston Astrodome to aid relief workers and victims of Hurricane Katrina and Hurricane Rita. Local ice vending machine owners in Louisiana and Mississippi also donated ice, allowing residents to fill coolers and keep foods cold. In total, IHA and local owners donated a half a million pounds of ice during the 2005 hurricane season.

Ice House vending machines installed at the Houston Astrodome provided essential access to ice for coolers and clean drinking water.

Ice House America staff worked quickly alongside relief workers and the National Guard to set up an Ice House station and provide clean drinking water and ice to the victims of the Tuscaloosa-Birmingham tornados.

Tornados in Tuscaloosa, AL

In 2011, a massive EF4, multiple-vortex tornado struck Alabama, devastating Tuscaloosa, parts of Birmingham, and several neighboring towns. The storm was one of the costliest on record, reaching winds of 190 mph and leveling entire areas. With critical infrastructure destroyed in this area, residents were not only left without homes, but also without access to clean water or means of refrigeration.

Ice House America responded to the disaster by quickly mobilizing two generated-powered units and delivering them to the hardest-hit areas. With areas of clean water located, these machines quickly provided the necessary access and additional purification needed for safe consumption. The ice machines also allowed residents to keep perishable items cold when the electrical grid has sustained extensive damage.

Hurricane IDA

Hurricane Ida, a deadly and destructive Category 4 Atlantic hurricane, struck Louisiana at the end of August 2021 and was named the second-most damaging hurricane to make landfall on record, behind Hurricane Katrina in 2005. The storm walloped coastal Louisiana with winds near 150 mph and a 14-foot storm surge. Island towns were left in shambles with no power and scant drinking water.

Partnering with Circle K convenience stores, Twice the Ice stepped in to provide emergency disaster relief, and helped thousands of those in need get access to clean water and ice. Twice the Ice CEO Troy Doom and Vice President of Operations John Edwards drove two mobile ice and water vending machines to the central disaster area. Working with disaster relief workers they were able to locate a safe water source, connect to it, power the machines by generators, and provide clean, safe, drinking water and ice. The mobile units not only provided an essential need when local water supplies were not reliable, but also allowed residents to keep perishable food cold. Twice the Ice and Circle K immediately began distributing free ice to Hurricane Ida victims, distributing over 5,000 pounds of ice per day.

Twice the Ice mobile units set up in the outer lots at Circle K providing free ice to those in need.
